Description
The region is divided into constituencies and wards. For the purpose of electing members of parliament and Councilors to the Western Urban District, the region is divided into 20 constituencies and 48 wards respectively
The district is the most ethnically diverse in Sierra Leone, as it is home to a significant population of all of Sierra Leone's ethnic groups. Like in virtually all parts of Sierra Leone, the Krio language is by far the most widely spoken language in Freetown and is spoken by the entire residents of the Western Area Urban District.
