Presidential elections are held to fill a vacancy occurring in the office of the President. No person is to be elected as candidate for the position of president if he/she is not nominated by a political party. For a person to be qualified as a candidate for President and to be nominated for that position, he should be a citizen of Sierra Leone by birth, a member of a political party, not less than forty years of age and should be qualified to be elected as a Member of Parliament. Also, the person who is to be nominated as Vice President should be a citizen of Sierra Leone by birth, a member of a political party and should not be less than forty years of age . He/she should also be qualified to be elected as a Member of Parliament.
