In this election registered voters elect one Presidential candidate (and the associated vice-presidential candidate). Only candidates that are members of and nominated by registered political parties can contest such elections; there are no independent candidates for Presidential election. A Presidential candidate must gain 55 percent of the total valid votes cast to be declared the winner. If no candidate achieves this, a runoff election will be conducted using a simple majority system between the two candidates who obtained the highest number of votes in the first round. The candidate who obtains a simple majority of valid votes in runoff the second round shall be declared elected.
